From bud burst to a length of the new shoots of 5 cm, the Top-Stop-Twist pliers are the Top-Stop pincer on the previous year's terminal shoot and turn the Top-Stop pincer with its 5 blades through 45º. This injures the bark (cambium) and inhibits the sap flow to the terminal bud. The cut should be made half a nipper head width above the branch crown of the previous year. When carried out properly, this method reduces increment by up to 30 % compared to untreated trees.
